Description
Šibenik is located in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic coast, in a picturesque, indented bay influenced by the Krka, one of the most beautiful Croatian karst rivers. Šibenik is an extremely rich city with various sights. As it has been conquered throughout history by numerous rulers, the city has developed and built an impressive fortification architecture. The symbol of the city is the Cathedral of St. Jakov, built over a hundred years and is a real proof of the talent of its architects, Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Firentinac, primarily because it was built entirely of stone. Today, Šibenik with 47,274 inhabitants (2011) is the capital and cultural, educational, administrative and economic center of Šibenik-Knin County.
