National Park Krka is located in Šibenik-Knin County, and has a total area of 109km2 which encompasses the best part of the river Krka and the lower part of the river Čikola. National park Krka is the seventh national park in Croatia, widely known for the large number of lakes and waterfalls. The Park got its name from the river Krka, which runs through the park. The park is located in central Dalmatia downriver from Miljevac? And only a few kilometres northeast of the city Šibenik. The park includes the area around the river Krka that springs out in the foothills of the mountain Dinara by Knin, it flows through a canyon 75 km long, then flows into the Prokljansko lake, and then finally into the Šibenik bay. The park spreads out onto 109 km2 where 25,6 of those are of water. Today the river Krka has 7 waterfalls, where they represent a natural limestone phenomena, we would recommend that you visit during the spring and summer months, where you can also enjoy a swim in the river.

River Krka

Including the flooded area, the river Krka is about 72,5km long, which is the 22nd longest river in Croatia. The river Krka springs out in the foothills of the Dinara mountain range, 3,5km northeast of the town of Knin. The seven waterfalls have a total drop length of 224m, which is a phenomena of the natural limestone in the area. These limestone/travertine waterfalls that are the main attraction of the river, and it was already during the mid 20th century that the local authorities recognized the need to protect and conserve the river Krka. The flooded area around the end of the river, is also especially attractive, as it is in fact an estuary.
